About Bandra West
The Queen of the Suburbs, and the part of Mumbai that people mean when they talk about the city being fun. Bandra is old Catholic villages with Portuguese names, film industry money, and the densest concentration of cafes, bars and small restaurants anywhere in Mumbai, all pressed into lanes that were never designed for it.
- Getting there
- Bandra station on the Western and Harbour lines, then a ten-minute auto west. Coming from South Mumbai, the Sea Link is the fast road.
- When to go
- Evening, from about 6pm. Sunday mornings are unusually quiet and good for walking the old lanes.
Known for
- Linking Road and Hill Road for street shopping
- Bandstand and Carter Road at sunset
- Pali and Chapel Road for cafes and bars
- Mount Mary Basilica above the sea
Tip. Bandra is walkable in patches and impossible to park in. Take an auto to the lane you want and walk from there.
