About Marine Drive
Three and a half kilometres of sea wall running from Nariman Point to Chowpatty, lined with the largest collection of Art Deco buildings outside Miami. It is the city’s living room: everyone comes here eventually, to sit on the parapet and watch the sea do nothing in particular.
- Getting there
- Churchgate or Marine Lines on the Western line, both a few minutes’ walk from the promenade.
- When to go
- An hour before sunset through to late evening. In the monsoon the waves come over the wall at high tide.
Known for
- The promenade and the Queen’s Necklace after dark
- Art Deco apartment blocks along the curve
- Girgaon Chowpatty at the northern end
- Offices and hotels at Nariman Point
Tip. Walk it north to south in the evening and you end up at Nariman Point with the lights behind you.
