About Bandstand Promenade
Bandstand is a 1.2 km walkway along the rocks of Bandra's western shore. Joggers and couples share it, and in the evening everyone stops to watch the sea link light up. At one end is Mannat, Shah Rukh Khan's house, with fans outside the gate at all hours. At the other are the ruins of Castella de Aguada, a Portuguese watchtower from 1640 and a good place to watch the sunset. Mount Mary Basilica is a short climb above.
The promenade is open all the time, but the fort isn't. Its official hours are 6 AM to 6:30 PM, and Google Maps shows it closed from 12 noon to 4 PM, so check before you go in the afternoon. Only between November and January does the sun set before the fort closes. The rest of the year you'll have to watch it from the promenade.
The Khans themselves haven't lived at Mannat since April 2025. They rented a home in Pali Hill while the house is extended, and are expected back around the end of 2026.
Tips
- Walk the full length to Bandra Fort, then climb up to Mount Mary
- Sit in the amphitheatre at the fort for the view of the sea link
- The cafés and bars on Chapel Road and Pali Hill are five minutes' walk inland
