About Sion
The hinge between the island city and the suburbs, and for a long time the actual boundary: the hilltop fort here marked the edge of British Bombay, looking north across the creek to Portuguese Salsette. Sion today is a junction rather than a destination, but it has a fort with a view, a Koliwada with a serious Punjabi food strip, and a good reason to stop if you are passing.
- Getting there
- Sion on the Central line, with the Eastern and Western Express Highways both close.
- When to go
- Late afternoon at the fort, before the light goes.
Known for
- Sion Fort and the view from the top
- Sion Koliwada and its food streets
- The junction where the island city ends
- Gurdwara Dashmesh Darbar and the gurdwaras of GTB Nagar
Tip. The fort is a short climb through a public garden and takes fifteen minutes. Go for the view over the city rather than the ruins.
