Trishna
Seafood, Mangalorean, Coastal, Indian · ₹₹₹ · Kala Ghoda, Fort
Trishna has been the seafood address in Kala Ghoda since April 1991, when the Anchan family renovated their old Matrubhoomi Lunch Home on Sai Baba Marg and renamed it. The restaurant's reputation travelled far enough that the Trishna in London, opened in 2008 by Karam Sethi, who had trained in this kitchen, borrowed its name.
The cooking is coastal and Mangalorean, and the dish nearly everyone comes for is the butter pepper garlic crab: a whole crab in a glossy sauce of butter, garlic and black pepper, best eaten with your hands and mopped up with neer dosa. Around it, order the prawn ghee roast, a bombil fry, surmai or pomfret, and the squid or prawns koliwada.
The room is small, plain and almost always full, and the bill is high by Mumbai standards, so it suits a special seafood meal rather than a quick lunch. It is a short walk from the Jehangir Art Gallery and the museums of Fort, which makes it an easy lunch on a day of sightseeing in South Mumbai.

What diners say
One of the best-loved seafood restaurants in the city, and reviewers keep confirming it: the butter garlic crab is the dish nearly everyone orders, followed by the prawn ghee roast, bombil, surmai and squid koliwada, all described as very fresh. The room is small, crowded and basic, a weekend table usually needs a reservation, and it is expensive. A few found the non-seafood dishes ordinary and the managers keen to turn tables.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need to book a table at Trishna?
For dinner and weekend lunches, yes. Call +91 92062 60260, or book through District or Zomato. If you walk in at lunch, arrive close to 12 noon: on a Saturday the room is usually full within half an hour of opening.
What should I order at Trishna?
The butter pepper garlic crab with neer dosa is the dish it is famous for. Add the prawn ghee roast, a bombil fry and the squid koliwada, and ask what fish is fresh that day.
What are Trishna's opening hours?
Lunch is 12 noon to 3:30 PM every day. Dinner is 6 to 11:30 PM, and until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays.
How much does a meal at Trishna cost?
It is expensive for Mumbai. Booking sites in October 2026 put a meal for two at about ₹2,000 to ₹3,500, and the crab is usually the biggest item on the bill.
Does Trishna serve alcohol?
Yes, it has a bar and serves beer, wine and cocktails.
Is Trishna in Mumbai the same as Trishna in London?
They share a name, not an owner. Karam Sethi trained in the Mumbai kitchen and opened Trishna in London in 2008; the Mumbai original is run by the Anchan family.
How do I get to Trishna?
It is on Sai Baba Marg in Kala Ghoda, opposite Kala Ghoda Café, about 15 minutes on foot from Churchgate or CSMT station. It has no parking of its own, so a taxi is easier than driving.
