About Jehangir Art Gallery
Opened on 21 January 1952 with donations from Sir Cowasji Jehangir, in memory of his son Jehangir, this is one of the most sought-after places in India for an artist to exhibit. Its seven halls, the four main exhibition galleries, the Auditorium Hall, the Hirji Jehangir Gallery and the Terrace Art Gallery for photography, host around 300 shows a year, most of them for a week, from established painters to first solo shows. Entry is free, and artists wait about two years for a slot. The pavement outside is an informal open-air gallery where painters sell their work directly.
