About Flora Fountain (Hutatma Chowk)
The Roman goddess Flora stands in Portland stone at the junction where the old fort's Churchgate once was, surrounded by the heavy Gothic and Neo-classical banks and offices of the 1860s building boom. Renamed Hutatma Chowk (Martyrs' Square) for those killed in the 1960 Maharashtra statehood agitation, whose memorial stands alongside. It's the natural starting point for a walk through the Fort district.
