About Mani Bhavan Gandhi Museum
A quiet Gujarati-style house on a leafy Gamdevi lane, Mani Bhavan was Mahatma Gandhi's Mumbai base for 17 years, where he launched the non-cooperation and civil disobedience movements, learned to card cotton, and was arrested in 1932. His room is preserved with his spinning wheel and books; upstairs, dioramas tell his life story in miniature. A library and picture gallery complete it.
Tips
- Ask to see the letter Mahatma Gandhi wrote to Hitler, it's in the picture gallery
- The lane is quiet and residential; taxis may not know it, say 'Gamdevi, near August Kranti Maidan'
- August Kranti Maidan, where Quit India was launched in 1942, is a short walk
