About Chor Bazaar
Centred on Mutton Street in the Muslim quarter, Chor Bazaar is a warren of shops selling old gramophones, ship's brass, vintage film posters, colonial furniture and a great deal of convincing reproduction. The name is probably a corruption of 'shor' (noisy) bazaar, though the story that Queen Victoria's stolen violin turned up here is better. Friday is the flea-market day when the pavements fill.
Tips
- Assume everything is a reproduction unless the shopkeeper can prove otherwise
- The surrounding streets have excellent kebab and biryani, this is the area for it
- Cash only at most shops
